African Woodcarvings

Artisan John Koranteng

Each region of Africa has its own traditional craftsmanship based on the natural resources of the area. Skilled artisans in the Rain Forests of Ghana have developed distinctive Wood-Carvings over the centuries. These woodcarvings depict everyday scenes of West African Village life. In more ways than one, therefore, a little piece of West Africa can adorn your home or that of a friend.

Producing the woodcarvings is a basic part of the economy of the area and both the Government and ourselves take great care to ensure that the production is carries out in a sustainable manner. For every tree felled for this work, three more are planted and many former poachers are now employed to police these policies. Environmentalists and Local Communities work hand in hand. We work directly with the co-operatives to ensure quality for the buyers and a fair price for the producers.
