The traditional art form of Appliqué involves stitching colourful layers of cloth to portray dramatic images of African scenes and the royal symbols from the ancient kingdom of Abomey.
The Art conveys images and symbols rather than what Europeans would understand as landscape and portrait. The powerful and colourful imagery will brighten up any wall-space and particularly fire the imagination of children. All these wall hanging cloths are made by hand by the cooperative Artisanale working within the grounds of the National Museum at Abomey.
