Five Man Unity Carving. Hand-carved in Kumasi, Ghana, by John Koranteng.
The 5-Man Unity is carved out of a single piece of wood and portrays the aspiration for the unity of the peoples of the world. It is based on the same principle as a Welsh Lovespoon (which is carved from one piece of wood to portray two lives joined together) and this is an indication that much Folk-Art goes back to common roots. The Unity is not only beautiful, but also practical, and can be used to hold a bowl or even a pot plant. An ideal talking point for any living room.
This item is part of an unique selection of handmade woodcarvings from Ghana. These gifts are all hand-carved by handicraft cooperatives in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The woodcarvings depict scenes from African Village and tribal life, and represent a genuine piece of Africa in your home.
