Gifts from Burkina Faso Co-operatives of Physically Dis-advantaged Artisans
Burkina Faso is the 5th poorest country in the world. The country has very little natural resources, and this is the main cause of its poverty.
We can learn a lot from their attitude towards physically disadvantaged people. Many craft co-operatives have been formed specifically for the physically disadvantaged, and the artisans earn a living and have earnt respect for their ingenuity in creating unique gifts. One of these co-operatives is the 'Co-operative Wend La Mita' - which translates to "God Understands" in the More language - located in Ouagadougou. This co-operative create these wonderful hand engraved wood coasters. Another co-operative for the physically disadvantaged has been setup in Tenkadogo, by M. Zabsonre Jean-Roger. They create very practical red & black leather purses.
We at Cadwyn visit the artisans and keep in regular contact with them to give advice, and thanks to the World Wide Web, we can now offer some of their products online to be sold throughout the world. We count the artisans as personal friends.
