Cadwyn bring from Bali a range of Fair Trade gifts handmade from coconuts. The shells, leaves and wood of the tree are all used to produce unique gifts.
Planet Coconut's range of Fair Trade Gifts are produced in a small workshop with 40 workers created in 1999, by a French citizen in a small village of Indonesia. The manager of the Workshop is now an Indonesian citizen, and raised his family of 5 children over there. Together, we have been promoting coconut wood handicraft for 5 years now, in order to bring new financial resources to the people of the village. The workshop and Planet Coconut have adopted an ethical trade charter.
Planet Coconut is a sustainable development project built around the Coconut tree, which is from the palm tree family. The Coconut tree is cultivated under the tropics, and produces coconuts for more than 60 years. Every year, the coconut tree gives 11 millions tons of coconut oil, 5 millions tons of coprah and 500 millions tons of coir. Thus, the coconut tree is more than ever the tree of life, and enables many different uses.
The Coconut tree is cultivated by 11 million farmers, on small plantations. When the tree reaches 65, it is no longer productive, and its agricultural use is stopped. At this stage, it is then possible to use the old trunks, and use the coconut wood. Planet Coconut's vocation is to recycle all the natural materials produced by this plant. Thus, Planet Coconut creates and develops natural decorative and handcrafted products with these natural raw materials, and contributes to the renewal of freshly planted plantation to maintain the agricultural and social role of this palm tree.
